How do I find my equipment serial number?

Food & Dairy -

If it's a Food and Dairy horizontal or vertical silo - it should be on the data plate or stamped into a manway hinge lug. If it's a Food and Dairy tank on legs - you can find it on the data plate or stamped into one of the legs facing the middle of the tank. It could also be stamped into the agitator support truss.

Dairy Farm Equipment -

On Milk Towers, the serial number is located on the data plate or stamped into the personnel-access hinge lug. On Milk Coolers, the serial number can be found on the data plate or stamped into the rim of the personnel access opening under the gasket. Milk Coolers sized 600 to 2000 gallons (not including the 2000C) will also have the serial number stamped into the internal measuring stick. The serial number is found on the data plate of all other pieces of Dairy Farm Equipment we produce.

Refrigeration Products -

The serial number is found on the data plate affixed to every piece of Refrigeration Products equipment we produce.

Beverage -

On a tank with legs, the serial number is typically located on a leg facing the center of the tank and 6-12 inches above the floor. On a tank with a skirt and base ring, the serial number is typically located either on the base ring or on the manway hinge. On a wine tank, the serial number is typically located on the front edge of one of the mounting lugs at the bottom of the tank close to the manway. For all of the designs the serial number can also be found on the data plate which is typically located on the rear of the tank just above the bottom head to shell seam.

Biopharmaceutical -

For Biopharm vessels the serial number will be located on the data plate and normally permanently stamped in an inconspicuous location on an available vessel support. The design drawings normally indicate the specific location. e.g. The inner surface of a support leg.

Chemical -

The Mueller standard is to place a permanent stamped serial number on one of the Tank supports.

  • If the tank is on legs then on one Leg.
  • If the tank is supported on a skirt than on the base ring.
  • If on side lugs then on one of the gussets at the lug.
  • If the tank is flat bottom with no supports as it sets on the bottom of the tank we typically have anchor lugs/clips at the bottom where the serial no. would be stamped.
  • If a horizontal tank on saddles, on the end plate for one of the saddles.

It should always be placed on a permanently attached item, not on a removable item.

A secondary location for convenience is on the manway hinge lug (welded) or on an agitator truss support. The Mueller Tank drawing will also show the location for the permanently stamped serial number.

If the vessel is an ASME Stamped vessel it will also be on the metal ASME data plate which is welded to the vessel but not in a specifically defined location each time, generally we try to put it near a manway.
